Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by excessive sweating, often occurring without triggers such as physical activity or high temperatures. It can be primarily caused by overactive eccrine sweat glands due to faulty nerve signals, leading to excessive sweating in areas like the palms.
How we treat Hyperhidrosis at MonaLisa Medical Spa
We use Botox®, to temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When these sweat glands don’t receive the signals, the excessive sweating stops. This treatment is particularly effective for hyperhidrosis of the underarms, and patients can experience an 82-87% decrease in sweating. The effects of Botox injections for hyperhidrosis are typically noticeable within a few days after treatment and can last for several months, after which the treatment can be repeated if necessary.
Other Methods of Hyperhidrosis Treatment
Hyperhidrosis treatment varies depending on the severity and the affected body part. Treatment options include:
- Topical Antiperspirants: Over-the-counter or prescription-strength antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride hexahydrate are often first-line treatments.
- Medications: Oral medications can reduce sweating.
- Iontophoresis: A treatment involving electricity to temporarily turn off the sweat glands.
- Microwave Thermolysis: Destroys sweat glands using microwave technology.
- Surgery: For severe cases, surgical options like sympathectomy, which involves cutting the nerves responsible for excessive sweating, may be considered.
